Philip Morris International has a friendly match up with Canadian tobacco company Rothmans Inc; in a two billion Canadian dollar (1.9 billion) takeover deal.

PMI, the global cigarette maker and distributor of leading brand Marlboro, by now owns a 40 percent stake in Rothmans, Benson & Hedges (RBH).

Rothmans Inc.'s sole holding is its 60 percent interest in RBH, whose trademarks include Rothmans, Craven A, Belmont and Benson & Hedges. Their products are sold in more than 160 countries.

Approximately 95% of the Canadian tobacco market is leaded by the three big companies Imperial, Rothmans and JTI-Macdonald. The remaining 5% is divided among smaller manufacturers: Bastos du Canada Ltd., Compagnie de Tabac Dynasty Inc. , Frank Correnti Cigars, Les Produits de Tabac Tremblay Inc. and Les Tabacs Tabec Inc.
